Christianity spread in India with the coming of the Apostles St. Thomas and St. Francis of Assisi. With 450 years of Portuguese rule, the Dutch, French and British colonial rules Christianity came to be accepted as the 2nd religion in the southern parts of India. Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the East Indians in Maharashtra.
The rigid social customs and caste systems of Hinduism, is to a large extend responsible for the spread of Christianity and more so in the Tribal areas where Christian Missionaries reached far flung places, almost inaccessible, specially in the far North East of Arunachal, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
India has major 3 sects, Roman Catholic, Anglicans and Syrian Christians
